1994 Little League World Series
The 1994 Little League World Series featured the first Venezuelan team to win a Little League World Series. Coquivacoa of Maracaibo, Zulia beat Northridge, CA, 4-3, in the finale. Northridge had been damaged badly by an earthquake earlier that year and had overcome adversity to reach the championship game. Venezuela joined the USA, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Mexico as countries to win a LLWS. Among the performers in the Series were Ming-Jen Kuo (Taiwan), two-time Olympic Medalist Krissy Wendell (Brooklyn Center, MN) and future NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Cassel (who played for Northridge).
