1970 Little League World Series
The 1970 Little League World Series was the 24th Little League World Series. Teams involved were Valleyfield, QC, Chiayi County, Wiesbaden, Hesse, Chinandega, Campbell, CA, Highland, IN, Wayne, NJ and Nashville, TN. The Series was the only one from 1967-1974 that was won by a US team. In the finale, Wayne beat Campbell, 2-0. Steve O'Neill scattered six hits and two walks while fanning six while T. Davis struck out 12 and allowed 5 hits and two runs for Campbell. CF D. Shaver's second-inning two-run double provided all the offense. The Series featured three no-hitters: Francisco Paz for Nicaragua, Brian Paluga for Highland vs. Germany and Steve O'Neill for Wayne versus Canada. Future scout Craig Kornfeld caught for Wayne; he was 0 for 1 with a BB and a HBP in the finale.
