1982 Little League World Series

From BR Bullpen

The 1982 Little League World Series was the 36th Little League World Series. Taiwan set a record by winning their sixth straight international title but failed to win their 6th straight championship as they fell to Kirkland, WA in the finale. The entries were Rouyn, QC, Pu-Tzu Town, Chia-Yi (Taiwan), Torrejon Air Base (Madrid, Spain), Coquivacoa, Maracaibo, Sarasota, FL, Easton, MD, Wyoming, MI and Kirkland, WA. In the finale, the US won 6-0 behind a stellar effort from Cody Webster (2 H, 12 K on the mound, a homer at the plate). The Series was unusual in having more future NHL players than MLB ones: Wilson Alvarez played for Coquivacoa (the third future MLBer from a non-US team in a LLWS) while Stephane Matteau (over 800 NHL games) and Pierre Turgeon (over 500 NHL goals) played for Rouyn. Kun-Yuan Chuo was played for Taiwan.

The Kirkland, WA team is remembered in the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, Little Big Men.
