Roberto Clemente Award
The national Roberto Clemente Award is given annually to honor a major league player for performance on the field as well as in the community. In addition, a local award is given annually to one player from every major league club.
The award was originally known as the Commissioner's Award. The award's name was changed in honor of Roberto Clemente in 1973 after the Hall of Famer died in a plane crash on the way to help earthquake victims in Central America.
