1965 Rule V Draft
The major league 1965 Rule V Draft was held November 29, while the minor league phase was held later the same day in Fort Lauderdale, FL. 65 players total were drafted by the major and minor league clubs. 23 players were drafted by major league teams at a cost of $473,000, while minor league teams selected 42 players.
The first-year rule was altered again, making it more difficult out draftees and made players selected in the newly created 1965 amateur draft ineligible to be drafted until the 1966 Rule V Draft. As a result, only 6 players were drafted under the rule along with the 17 regular picks. In 1964, the numbers were 59 and 4 respectively. The first pick was Ron Stone.
In the minor league draft, 35 players were selected in the regular draft and only 7 in the first-year draft. The previous year, the numbers were 22 and 20 respectively.
