1930 Rule V Draft
The major league 1930 Rule V Draft was held September 30. 21 players were drafted by major league teams, but the Philadelphia Phillies made an additional selection on October 7 when they discovered that Topeka was still open.
The biggest story of the draft was the Phillies taking Stew Bolen with the first pick, bypassing Bolen's Baltimore teammate Joe Hauser who had just hit 63 home runs in the International League. Hauser was then protected from being drafted by the rule that only one player could be taken from each minor league team.
