History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 2025 Atlanta Braves began their season on the wrong foot. Starting off with a four-game series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, they lost all four games, including being limited to just one hit in a 5-0 shutout in the final game of the four on March 30th. If that wasn't bad enough, it was announced the next day that the most significant player signed by the Braves during the off-season, LF Jurickson Profar, had failed a PED test and would be suspended for 80 games. And if that wasn't enough, they had to place their second-best starter from the previous season, Reynaldo Lopez, on the injured list that same day, then fell to 0-5 after a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who had yet to lose a game that season. The Braves hit rock bottom on April 16th after losing of three to the Toronto Blue Jays to fall to 5-13 on the season. They then started a hot streak that saw them win seven of their next eight games. However, in spite of that, they were unable to make up any ground: they had been six games back of first place on April 16th, and were 6 1/2 games behind ten days later!

On April 26th, they won a remarkable game when they managed to overcome a four-homer game by Eugenio Suárez to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-7, in 10 innings. This was only the third time in major league history that this had happened - and the last one had also involved the Braves: on July 6, 1986, Bob Horner had homered four time but Atlanta had still lost the game, 11-8, to the Montreal Expos. This time, Suárez's fourth long ball, off closer Raisel Iglesias in the bottom of the 9th, had tied the game, but Atlanta had managed to regroup to have its ghost runner cross the plate in the top of the 10th before Dylan Lee closed the door on Arizona in the bottom of the inning.

On July 27th, the Braves placed starting pitcher Grant Holmes on the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. He was the fifth member of the team's opening day starting rotation to go on the IL, following Chris Sale (fractured ribcage), Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder inflammation), Spencer Schwellenbach (fractured elbow) and AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow strain). That same day, they acquired veteran starting pitcher Erick Fedde from the St. Louis Cardinals in return for future considerations; Fedde was not having a particularly good year - he was 3-10, 5.22 at the time and had just been designated for assignment - but at least he was healthy.
