Season Highlights[edit]
On June 13th, the 2025 Miami Marlins were 16 games below .500 and seemingly headed to a second straight highly forgettable season filed under the heading of "rebuilding". But suddenly, they caught fire after that, and their record from that date until the end of July was 27-14, tied for the best in the National League with the Milwaukee Brewers over that period. On August 1st, they stunned the New York Yankees with a highly improbable 13-12 walk-off victory that brought them to within two games of .500 at 53-55. The Yankees had not lost a road game in which they had scored that many runs since 1940, or any nine-inning game scoring that many runs since 1973. The win was typical in a way, as the Marlins had by then built a reputation both for their come-from-behind wins (it was their 27th) and their walk-off wins (their eighth of the season already). They won their next two games against the Yankees, to complete a three-game sweep that brought them back to .500, but that also made them the only team to have a positive all-time record against the Bronx Bombers: counting their win in the 2003 World Series, the Fish were now 25-24 against the Yankees, the only team with a positive record against them.
