1971 Amateur Draft

From BR Bullpen

The top pick in the 1971 Amateur Draft, Danny Goodwin, is the only player to be drafted first overall twice. He was selected by the Chicago White Sox but couldn't agree on a contract with the club. He became the first top pick to go unsigned. Four years later, he was picked first overall by the California Angels in the 1975 amateur draft.

Future NFL quarterbacks Archie Manning, Steve Bartkowski and Joe Theismann were all selected in the 1971 draft. Another quarterback, Condredge Holloway, went on to Hall of Fame career in the Canadian Football League.
