Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Ed Kurpiel was a "phantom major leaguer." Although the St. Louis Cardinals called him up at the end of the 1974 season, he never got into a game for them, though Lou Brock broke the single-season record of Maury Wills for stolen bases during Ed's first game in St. Louis uniform. He was traded to the Montreal Expos with Rudy Kinard for Ron Fairly on December 6, 1974 and never made it back to The Show

Kurpiel, who starred at Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, NY was a 1st round pick in the 1971 amateur draft. He spent five seasons in AAA, including the last two with the New York Mets organization after coming over in a a trade for Leon Brown and Brock Pemberton. Kurpiel played his last two pro seasons in Mexico.
