United States

The United States (formally United States of America, often abbreviated as USA) is a country located primarily in North America. The country is considered to be the birthplace of modern baseball. It was the location of the first professional team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, in 1869 and the first professional league, the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players, in 1871.

The United States is currently home to 29 of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball, the best professional league in the world, and to hundreds of minor league teams. It is represented in international competitions by Team USA and its variations such as the USA women's national team, the USA junior national team and the USA College National Team.
