The Lake County Captains of the Midwest League, and briefly in High-A Central, turned around an alternate identity in just eight hours on June 10, 2019. The Cleveland Guardians farmhands play their home games in Classic Park in Eastlake, OH.
After a mild morning earthquake, the Caps became the "Quake County Captains" - then reprised the brief rebrand the next day. While Ohio is not generally thought of as earthquake country, its Northeast Ohio Seismic Zone has its share. However, most are so mild they go unnoticed.
The Caps' entry into the MwL also came in an unusual way that might be headlined: "Goodbye, Columbus"? The South Atlantic League's Columbus RedStixx abandoned that city in 2003, as did the 2004-replacement Columbus Catfish in 2009 to become the Bowling Green Hot Rods; the two jumped jointly to the MwL in 2010. The Caps played in the Sally League for 19 seasons, with the first seven in Ohio more than 250 miles from any opponent. Now, six league-mates are within that distance.
The Caps play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic engagement campaign games as Picantes de Lake County (Lake County Spicies).
