Biographical Information[edit]
IF Tony Mansolino was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 26th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He played in the minor leagues from 2005 to 2010 in the Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies chains and in independent leagues. He reached AA for 7 games in 2008.
Mansolino was a hitting coach for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2011-2012, Lake County Captains in 2013, Carolina Mudcats in 2014, and Akron RubberDucks in 2015. He managed in the Indian's system for the next four years beginning at Lake County and getting promoted one step each year thereafter. In 2019, he led the Columbus Clippers to the International League crown. Mansolino was named Cleveland's minor league infield coordinator for 2020. When Cleveland manager Terry Francona encountered some health problems, the Indians shuffled the major league staff and brought Mansolino up to serve as the interim third base coach for the remainder of the season.
In 2021, the Baltimore Orioles hired Mansolino as their third base coach and infield instructor, roles he continued into the 2025 season. On May 17th that year, with the Orioles off to a terrible start, he was named the team's interim manager following the firing of Brandon Hyde. The Orioles lost the first four games they played under his watch, until finally defeating the Milwaukee Brewers on May 21st. And that win did not come easy as it featured two blown saves, by Félix Bautista and Bryan Baker, until a three-run homer by Adley Rutschman in the 11th inning put the game safely away. After that, the Orioles played much better, finishing one game above .500 for his tenure, although their poor start menat that they still finished last. The day after the season ended, the Orioles announced that his tenure as interim skipper was over, but that he would be one of the candidates interviewed for the permanent job. However, that job went to Craig Albernaz. As a result, he moved to the Atlanta Braves, where he became the bench coach for Walt Weiss, who had been promoted from that position to that of manager.
Mansolino is the son of Doug Mansolino.
