In 1959, the Chicago White Sox finally returned to the postseason after a 40 year absence. The "Go Go Sox", managed by Al Lopez, were built on speed, pitching, and defense. The team was led by the American League Most Valuable Player, second baseman Nellie Fox, and speedy Gold Glove shortstop Luis Aparicio. The Cy Young Award winner, pitcher Early Wynn, anchored a pitching staff that also included youngster Bob Shaw and veteran Billy Pierce.
