History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
After ending the 2024 season on a sour note, missing the postseason after contending for a division title until late August, the 2025 Minnesota Twins got off to a terrible start. They lost their first four games of the year and were just 7-15 on April 20th. Observers were starting to say that their time as a contender was in the past, and that manager Rocco Baldelli's job was no longer safe. However, the Twins made a complete turn-around after that. They won six of their next seven games, then after a brief hiccup that saw them lose four straight around May 1st, they reeled off ten straight wins, the longest winning streak by any team in the majors to that point, starting on May 3rd. After the tenth win on May 14th, they had improved their record to 23-20 and were back in the running. Surprisingly, their best offensive player at that point was one no one had seem coming: LF Harrison Bader, a low-profile off-season signee, was leading the team in average (.300) and OPS+ (137), but it was really a matter of everyone pitching in. They made it 11 wins in a row with a 4-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on May 15th, but that victory was costly as SS Carlos Correa and CF Byron Buxton collided violently in the outfield and both players had to leave the game. Both suffered concussions, with Correa heading immediately to the injured list while Buxton remained under evaluation when they played their next game on May 16th and extended the streak to 12 win with a 3-0 shutout of the Milwaukee Brewers behind the pitching of Joe Ryan. Their 13th straight win the next day, 7-0 over Milwaukee, extended the streak to 13 games - making it the second longest in franchise history. The 1991 team that won the World Series had put together a 15-game streak in June. Their 33 innings without allowing a run also set a franchise record.
The winning streak ended with a 5-2 loss to the Brewers on May 18th, but Minnesota then won two of its next three, both times in walk-off fashion to improve their record to 28-22 after 50 games. They continued that hot streak with yet another walk-off win on May 24th, 5-4 over the Kansas City Royals.
