2025 CPBL All-Star Game

The 2025 CPBL All-Star Games were held July 19 and July 20, 2025. The topic of this year was the Chinese Taipei national team of the 2026 World Baseball Classic Qualifier versus the CPBL All-Star team.

The first game took place July 19 at Taipei Dome with an attendance of 40,000, and it broke the record for highest attendance of a CPBL All-Star Game. Chinese Taipei's starter, submariner Yu-Hung Chen, had troubles in the first inning. He allowed back-to-back singles to Chun-Hsiu Chen and Yu Chang, then he plunked Chi-Hung Hsu to load the bases. Fortunately, Tzu-Hsien Chan hit a foul fly and ended the inning. However, Chen still struggled in the second inning as Yu-Chieh Kao hit a leadoff single, then he hit a batter again, this time Cheng-Hua Yueh. Cheng-Jui Sung then added a single, and Wei-Chen Wang took the lead for the CPBL. Tzu-Wei Lin hit a single to load the bases again, and Yu-Hung retired Chun-Hsiu Chen and Chang to end his work.

CPBL's starter Pao-Lo Huang and relievers Yin-Hao Lai and Yu-Cheng Wu blanked Chinese Taipei in the first four innings, and Tien-Hsin Kuo tried to show a Willie Mays-style catch in the fifth inning. He failed to catch Pei-Feng Dai's flyball, and it was crucial for Chinese Taipei because they then tied the game thanks to Chen-Wei Chen's hit after Tung-Hua Yueh's double. The CPBL took the lead again soon in the 6th inning. Chia-Wei Lin greeted Kuo-Hao Chiang with a leadoff double, and Chiang struck out Cheng-Jui Sung. However, he then gave up four straight hits with 2 runs, and Po-Hsuan Wang added a run with a sacrifice fly. Kuo redeemed his error with a RBI single, and the CPBL had a 4-run lead.

Former CPBL saves leader Yen-Ching Lu pitched for the CPBL in the 7th inning, but he couln't save his team this time. Shao-Hung Chiang recorded a leadoff single, then middle infield duos of Wei-Chuan Cheng-Yu Chang and Kai-Wei Lee both hit a single. Lu fanned Chen-Wei Chen but walked Sung-En Tseng to load the bases, then Chih-Cheng Chiu knocked in a run with a single. Lu forced Kungkuan Giljegiljaw to hit a flyball to right, but Sung failed to catch it and the Chinese Taipei tied the game. Yu-Hsien Chu then drove in the go-ahead run for Chinese Taipei with a single, but Kungkuan was tagged out at home. Japanese hurler Masaki Takashio, who was the only foreign player in this game, gave up two straight hits but Chinese Taipei couldn't extend their lead as Chieh-Kai Pan was out at home again. Kuan-Wei Chen closed the door for Chinese Taipei, and they got their third straight wins.

The second game took place July 20 at Taipei Dome with an attendance of 40,000. Two legendary players who announced that they would retired after this season - Chih-Sheng Lin and Chin-Lung Hu - were Chinese Taipei's first two batters. It was the first time since 2015 that Lin played as a shortstop. CPBL's starter was Bradin Hagens, who didn't get a loss in the first half of the season, and he pitched two shutout innings with a strikeout. Both sides were blanked in the first five innings, and the CPBL decided to let CF Tien-Hsin Kuo pitch in the 6th inning. He got a hold with a shutout inning, and he even struck out Lin with a nasty slider.

When Chi-Hung Hsu reached base in the 7th inning, the CPBL made an unusual move again. They let Rakuten's mascot The Monkey pinch-run for Hsu, and he even successfully stole second. It couldn't help the CPBL get a run, and the Chinese Taipei answered in the 9th inning. Center fielder Cheng-Jui Sung was set to the mound, and his fastball reached 96mph. He planked his teammate Kun-Yu Chiang, and left fielder Chia-Wei Lin succeeded him. It's worth noting that both players had pitched in the regular season. The CPBL couldn't get any runs against position players. For the first time ever, there would be a swing-off to determine the winner.

Each manager designated two players to take part in the swing-off. CPBL's Keiichi Hirano mysteriously chose Wei-Chen Wang, who only hit 12 homers in his 11-year career, and former Major Leaguer Yu Chang. On the other hand, Chinese Taipei's Hao-Ju Tseng went with two former CPBL home run leader An-Ko Lin and Yu-Hsien Chu. Each batter had three swings to hit home runs. Chang homered once in his three chances, and Lin answered back with a homer on his third try. As expected, Wang hit three grounders and Yu-Hsien Chu ended the game on his first swing. He was named the MVP.
