Biographical Information[edit]

Bo-Hao Chen has pitched in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.

Chen was picked by the Chinatrust Brothers in the 3rd round of the 2017 CPBL draft. [1] He was very good in the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup, allowing only one hit and one unearned run in 4 2/3 IP (3 BB) while fanning nine. He got a win over Canada and a save against the Netherlands. [2] He made it to the CPBL that year, allowing one run (two hits, one walk) in one inning. He became the youngest pitcher (18 years, 266 days) to appear in the CPBL playoffs (Tse-Chun Wang (19 years, 75 days) had held the record). [3] In the 2018 CPBL, he was 3-3 with 3 saves but with a 7.24 ERA and 2.02 WHIP in 35 games.

He was the youngest player for Taiwan in the 2018 Asian Games and their only teenager. Hao-Wei Shen was their next-youngest and was over a year older. Chen turned in three solid relief appearances. He was one of seven Taiwanese hurlers to each work one inning in a 15-0 mercy rule rout of Indonesia. Relieving Yu-Hsiang Lin in the second with a 6-0 lead, he retired Ranjani and Riski Moehammad Adjhari on grounders then struck out Bachtiar Sanjaya. Hua-Ching Lin took over in the 3rd. In a 5-0 loss to Japan, he relieved Yu-Hsiang Lin in the 9th and whiffed both Koji Chikamoto and Shoji Kitamura, then got Jumpei Horimai on a fly. Finally, in the Bronze Medal Game, he relieved Yu-Pu Wang to close out a 10-0 win over China. Chenchen Luan grounded into an error by Chen, then Yunqi Song also grounded back to the mound and Chen went to second for the force. He struck out Jin Yang swinging then retired Zhenhong Lu. [4]

He throws a fastball (peak 94.4 mph as of 2018), slider and curveball.
