Biographical Information[edit]
Jun Takeshita played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years
Takeshita was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the first round of the 1991 NPB draft, and he spent his first three seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only pitched 13 games combined for the big club. He completed a no-hitter against the Seibu Lions minor league team on April 26, 1994, and his opponent Futoshi Yamabe was also hitless. Takeshita allowed a run due to an error and lost the game. That was the only game in NPB pro baseball history that both teams' starters completed a no-hitter. Takeshita went 1-2 with a 2.42 ERA in 1995, but his ERA rose to 5.53 in 31 appearances in 1996.
The Shizuoka native bounced back soon, and he had a 3.30 ERA in 21 games in 1997. Takeshita pitched 29 games with a 3.06 ERA in 1998, and he appeared in the 1998 Nippon Series. He pitched 1 2/3 innings combined in his first three games, and he struck out 4 (against Motonobu Tanishige, Tatsuya Shindo, Takanori Suzuki and Norihiro Komada) in 2 1/3 shutout innings in Game 5. The Yokohama BayStars beat the Lions in 6 games. He was 2-2 with a 3.62 ERA in 23 games in 1999, and he only pitched 6 games with a 4.00 ERA in 2000. His ERA was 3.60 in 9 games in 2001, and he allowed 3 runs in an inning in 2002. Takeshita then announced his retirement in 2003, and he became a scout for the Lions in 2008. He signed Shinnosuke Hada, Shota Hamaya, Takuya Hiruma, Ryota Itogawa, Wataru Matsumoto, Tetsu Miyagawa, Hiromasa Saitoh, Takeru Sasaki, Taiyo Sato, Haruki Sugiyama, Gakuto Wakabayashi, Kento Watanabe and Takayoshi Yamamura.
Overall, Takeshita was 12-12 with a 4.13 ERA, struck out 269 and pitched 288 innings in 11 seasons in the NPB.
