Biographical Information[edit]
Jamie Ritchie played in AAA in five seasons but never made the majors.
Ritchie hit .436 as a high school senior. [1] He hit .203/.258/.246 as a college freshman, .221/.384/.353 as a sophomore and .302/.404/.464 as a junior. The Houston Astros took him in the 13th round of the 2014 amateur draft; the scout was Nick Venuto. [2] Turning pro with the Tri-City Dust Devils, he batted .331/.455/.465. He was 5th in the New York-Penn League with 29 walks and easily led in OBP. [3] He continued to get on pace frequently in 2015, split between the Quad Cities River Bandits (.266/.428/.367, 70 BB in 72 G) and Lancaster JetHawks (.308/.422/.444 in 39 G). He tied Joe DeCarlo for the Midwest League in walks despite being out of the league for over a month. He led Astros farmhands in walks, 9 ahead of AJ Reed. He was 4th in all of the affiliated minors, between Danny Hayes and Lars Anderson.
He hit .276/.389/.395 for the 2016 JetHawks, fielding .988 behind the dish. He hit for the cycle for the 2017 Corpus Christi Hooks [4] and finished the year at .256/.382/.335. He split '18 between the Hooks (.280/.368/.348 in 45 G) and Fresno Grizzlies (.321/.433/.519 in 25 G). Despite his strong debut in AAA, he was not a September call-up to the 2018 Astros, who were getting little punch from Max Stassi and Brian McCann. With the 2019 Round Rock Express, he posted a .270/.375/.409 batting line. He was on the Great Britain national team in the 2019 European Championship but did not get into a game; presumably, he was injured or there were visa issues as their other catchers (Conner Brown and Brett Rosen) never played in the minors. [5] The 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, he batted .317/.417/.430 for the 2021 Reno Aces but again not being called up to The Show. With the Pittsburgh Pirates' Indianapolis Indians affiliate in 2022, he hit .242/.375/.283. He was initially on the British team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic but was not on the roster when the event began for some reason. [6] Signing with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023, he played for the Buffalo Bisons (.233/.364/.278 in 58 G) and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (2 for 4, 2 BB).
