Team History[edit]
The Reno Aces, of the Pacific Coast League and briefly in Triple-A West, revived affiliated baseball in a city that went without from 1993 through 2008. The Arizona Diamondbacks farmhands play their home games at Greater Nevada Field in Reno, NV.
In 2009, while the Tucson Sidewinders were shedding their skin to move to Reno - bringing along their affiliation with the Diamondbacks - a naming contest drew 1,100 different names among more than 3,500 submissions; more than 50 of those pitched Aces. Its double entendre recognizes both the primary local industry and their game: The ace playing card ties to gambling, while a baseball team's best pitcher is known as its ace.
Nevada's only two minor league baseball teams play their season series for the Silver Plate Trophy. The Aces were managed during their first five seasons by former Major League player Brett Butler.
The Aces play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic engagement campaign games as Corazones de Reno (Reno Hearts).
