Biographical Information[edit]

Jeff Gardner played in the New York Mets minor league system starting in 1985 and made his major league debut in 1991. He also played for the San Diego Padres in 1992 and 1993 and the Montreal Expos in 1994. He played fewer than 20 in all of these seasons, except for 1993 when he hit .262 in 140 games for the Padres as their regular second baseman. In 1994, he started the season with the Expos as a back-up infielder, but was sent down to the minors in early May when the Expos replaced him with Juan Bell. He finished the 1994 season in AAA with the Ottawa Lynx and then spent 1995 with the Iowa Cubs of the American Association before retiring as a player.

After retiring, Gardner was an advance scout for the San Diego Padres until 2005 when not managing in their minor league chain. [1] It is not clear what he did from 2006-2009. Gardner's LinkedIn profile indicates he was in private business from 2010-2013.[2] Gardner returned to professional baseball in 2014. He was an advance scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2014-2021, then was Arizona's Quality Control Coordinator from 2022-2024 in their player development system. Gardner returned to the field as manager of the Reno Aces in 2025.
