Biographical Information[edit]
James Dykstra has played in minor leagues and in Nippon Pro Baseball. His brother Allan Dykstra played in the Major League.
Dykstra was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 40th round of the 2009 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign and went to the college. The Colorado Rockies picked him in the 50th round of the 2010 Amateur Draft from Yavapai College, and he refused to sign again. Dykstra was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 6th round of the 2013 Amateur Draft, and he had a 5.06 ERA in 6 games for the Great Falls Voyagers in his first season. He went 6-8 with a 2.64 ERA for the Kannapolis Intimidators in 2014, and he also started 9 games with a 3-3 record and a 4.89 ERA for the Winston-Salem Dash. Dykstra was 7-10 with a 3.51 ERA for the Dash in 2015, and he completed a 7-inning no-hitter against the Potomac Nationals on April 15.
In 2016, Dykstra was 4-9 with a 4.93 ERA for the Birmingham Barons, then he was traded to the Texas Rangers for cash. He then had a solid 1.46 ERA in 7 appearances for the Frisco RoughRiders, but he struggled with the AAA Round Rock Express as he went 2-9 with a 7.33 ERA. Dykstra allowed 11 runs in 6 2/3 innings for the RoughRiders in 2018, and he was released in April. He then signed with the Sioux City Explorers, and he was 9-4 with a 3.49 ERA in the rest of the season. He was 3-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 39 appearances for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in 2019, and he also recorded a 3.75 ERA in 14 relief outings for the Sugar Land Skeeters. Dykstra then pitched 6 games with a 3.86 ERA for the Tomateros de Culiacan in winter, and the Toronto Blue Jays signed him. Because COVID-19 shut down the minor leagues, Dykstra didn't pitch in 2020.
Dykstra was 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2021, and he also pitched 3 games for the Buffalo Bisons and one game for the Dunedin Blue Jays. He was 1-3 with a 7.27 ERA for the Guerreros de Oaxaca in 2022, and he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched 6 games with a 5.06 ERA for the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs, and he was released on August 4. Dykstra returned to the Blue Crabs, and he was 0-2 with a 2.45 ERA. He then had a 6.97 ERA in 13 appearances for the Cardenales de Lara in the winter, and he went 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA for the Blue Crabs. The Chiba Lotte Marines in 2024, but he only pitched 3 games with a 1.64 ERA, and he was released on July 31.
