Biographical Information

Cesar Aquino has pitched in the minors and for the German national team.

He had a 7.88 ERA for Germany in the 2022 U18 European Championship. He was signed by Pittsburgh Pirates scout Jose Cruz in March 2024. He had a superb pro debut that summer, going 6-1 with a 0.98 ERA and .76 WHIP. He tied for 4th in the Dominican Summer League in wins, led in ERA (.31 ahead of #2 Ubaldo Soto) and WHIP (.09 ahead of Stharlin Torres) and was 5th with a .177 opponent average. He was named a DSL All-Star.

Aquino split the summer of '25 between the FCL Pirates (4-1, 3 Sv, 3.18 in 16 G) and Bradenton Marauders (0-1, 6.75 in 5 G), walking only 8 in 47 1/3 innings. He then made Germany's senior national team for the 2025 European Championship, debuting against Sweden. He relieved Christian Pedrol in the 8th with a 4-2 lead. He allowed a leadoff triple to Joel Johnson and a RBI grounder to Tobias Glimmerud then Daniel Johnson singled before he settled down to strike out Peter Johannessen and Victor Wahlberg. He went 1-2-3 against Ben Johnson, Jakob Lindkvist and Oskar Jerfsten for the save. He threw a hitless, scoreless inning against Silver Medalist Italy. In the 5th/6th place game, he closed out a 2-0 victory, saving the win for Philipp Kleehaupt. Succeeding Kleehaupt in the 8th, he retired all six batters he faced (Chris Bear, Nick Ward, Julian Sanders, Quinn Allen, Max Viera and Will Cresswell), closing with a strikeout. He tied Kevin Kelly for the event lead in saves.
