History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

In May, the 2015 Los Angeles Dodgers set an unenviable team mark by going 42 consecutive innings without scoring on the road. The previous mark of 41 innings had been set by the 1908 Brooklyn Superbas. The streak included a series sweep at the hand of the San Francisco Giants which coincided with San Francisco taking over the lead from thee Dodgers in the NL West. It ended on May 30, when after being held hitless for five innings by the St. Louis Cardinals' Michael Wacha, they scored four runs in the 6th inning, courtesy of an RBI single by Howie Kendrick and a three-run homer by Yasmani Grandal, on their way to 5-1 win.

By all rights, the Dodgers should have run away with the AL West title, but while they staked an early claim on first place on April 17th and were only out of first place for one day - May 29th - over the next few months, they never managed to build a large lead over the tenacious Giants. That was in spite of having arguably the two best starting pitchers in the majors in Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke. They found it hard to score runs, and wins were sometimes hard to come by when the big two were not starting. An indication of their offensive problems came in late August, when they were victims of two no-hitters in the span of ten days: on August 21st, Mike Fiers of the Houston Astros pulled the trick, and on August 30th it was the turn of Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs. It was the first time in franchise history that the Dodgers had been no-hit twice in one season.
