History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1963 St. Louis Cardinals hold the major league record for most innings without allowing a run at the start of a season, with 32. They began the season by shutting out the New York Mets twice on the road, 1-0 and 2-0, behind Ernie Broglio and Ray Washburn, then Curt Simmons pitched another shutout in the team's home opener on April 13th, 7-0 over the Philadelphia Phillies. The streak ended the next day when Broglio finally allowed a run in the 6th inning.
