John Tamargo Jr. hit .309 in 168 collegiate games with 200 hits, 99 RBI, and 42 SB. In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, Tamargo batted .190/.190/.238 as a second baseman for Team USA as part of the disappointing 8th-place effort by the team. He was taken in the 21st round of the 1996 amateur draft by the New York Mets and played 8 seasons in the minors (7 with the Mets).
In 2004 Tamargo was coach of the Salem Avalanche and has been coach of the Corpus Christi Hooks since 2005. His father is John Tamargo.
