Biographical Information[edit]
Vitus Gneist has been on the Austrian national team.
Gneist pitched one shutout inning for the 2023 Wiener Neustadt Diving Ducks of the Austrian Baseball League. [1] In the 2024 European Cup, he pitched three shutout innings against the K. Deurne Spartans before giving way to Eoghan McGarry. [2] That summer in Austria, he was 2-0 with a save and a 2.25 ERA. [3]
In the 2025 European Cup, he had a 1-1, 5.40 record, losing to the Barracudas de Montpellier's Ben Couvreur but beating Jak Simonsen and the Vienna Metrostars. [4] In Austria in 2025, he was 2-3 with a 3.52 ERA and 47 K in 46 IP, finishing 7th in the league in ERA. [5] Debuting with the senior national team in the 2025 European Championship, he made three appearances. Versus Croatia, he relieved Mo Hackl in the 8th with a 1-0 deficit. He retired Jorman Alcala, yielded a single to Jantzen Witte, retired former major leaguer Joey Terdoslavich, walked Jose Herrera, gave up a RBI single to Andrija Tomić and got Christian Šket to end the inning. After Austria tied it in the bottom of the inning, Mathias Albert took over for him. He was better in his second appearance; succeeding Hackl in the 6th with a 5-0 deficit against defending champ Spain. He walked Carlos Colmenarez, fanned Gabriel Lino, got Frank Hernández to hit into a force, walked Omar Hernández and retired MLB vet Luis Guillorme to end the inning. Klaus Scheicher took over in the 7th. His last outing was his best yet, facing Sweden in the 9th/10th place game. He relieved Sebastian Holzer in the 7th with two on, one out and a 2-2 tie. He induced a double play ball from Victor Wahlberg to escape that threat. In the 8th, after Austria had scored 4 times in the bottom of the 7th, he got Alfred Glavå and Tommy Lindell, walked Joel Johnson, plunked Daniel Johnson but recovered to get Oskar Jerfsten. Christian Tomsich replaced him but Gneist got the win over Gustav Oijen. [6]
