The Buffaloes then traded him with Go Kida to the Yokohama BayStars for Hayato Terahara and Kazuya Takamiya, and he struggled again in 2011 as he went 2-11 with a 5.92 ERA. He was 5th in losses in the Central League, tied with Hirokazu Sawamura, Shun Tono, Tatsuyoshi Masubuchi and Bryan Bullington. Yamamoto allowed 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings in 2013, and he announced his retirement. He later scouted, signing Itua Ikhine, Daiju Nomura and Tatsuru Yanagimachi.
Overall, Yamamoto was 40-42 with a 4.41 ERA, struck out 501 and pitched 743 1/3 innings in 13 seasons in NPB.
