Biographical Information[edit]

Shane Wright pitched professionally from 1999 to 2001, peaking at Single A.

He was drafted twice. Initially, he was taken by the Montreal Expos in the 40th round of the 1995 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 9th round of the 1999 amateur draft, one pick after infielder Mark Ellis.

In his first season, he went 2-6 with a 2.81 ERA in 17 game (6 starts) for the Williamsport Crosscutters. He tied Mike Nannini and Brad Pautz for second in the New York-Penn League with 2 complete games, behind Todd Moser's 3. In 2000, he was 3-3 with a 5.00 ERA in 32 games (1 start) for the Hickory Crawdads. In 2001, his final campaign, he went 6-6 with a 3.71 mark in 16 games (11 starts) for the independent Fort Worth Cats.

Overall, he was 11-15 with a 3.92 ERA in 65 games (18 starts).

While at Texas Tech, he was named a American Baseball Coaches Association All-American in 1998, alongside fellow hurlers Jack Krawczyk, Seth Etherton, Mike Fischer and Alex Santos. Collegiate Baseball also named him an All-American that year, alongside Etherton, Krawczyk, Jeff Austin, Josh Fogg and Jeff Weaver. He was named to the All-Tournament Team in the 1998 Big 12 Conference Tournament.
