Salem Red Sox

Team History[edit]

The Salem Red Sox, of the Carolina League and briefly in Low-A East, are owned by their parent club. The Boston Red Sox farmhands play their home games at Carilion Clinic Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark in Salem, VA.

MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization lowered the S-Sox one level. In 2009, the BoSox bought the franchise to get their High-A players out of Lancaster, CA - whose windy ballpark could derail pitchers on their minor league climb.

Salem nicknames before they became an owned-and-operated were: Friends, Rebels, Pirates, Redbirds, Buccaneers and Avalanche, with some of them reflecting an affiliation with either the Pittsburgh Pirates or Colorado Rockies.

The S-Sox play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic engagement campaign games as San Bernardos de Salem (Salem Saint Bernards).
