Ron Davis played in the majors between 1962 and 1969. The only major leaguer who came from Duke University in the 1960s, he came up originally with the Houston Colt .45s in their first major league season.
He played in 6 games that first year and wouldn't play in the big leagues again until 1966, and he came back in fine fashion. In his first game back - on August 6th, he went 3 for 5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. His early success eventually tapered off, as he finished the season with a .247 batting average in 48 games.
He was the same age as Houston teammate Jimmy Wynn and a couple of years older than Joe Morgan and Rusty Staub. In his last major league year with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1969, he backed up the outfield of Willie Stargell, Roberto Clemente and Matty Alou.
