Scott managed in the Texas Rangers' chain in 1982-1984, then became the team's Director of Player Development from 1984 to 1994. He then managed the St. Paul Saints from 1995 to 2000 and the Fort Worth Cats of the Central Baseball League for part of the 2002 season.
In October of 2017, he was at the employ of the Miami Marlins as Vice-President of Pro Scouting and was hospitalized while recovering from colon cancer surgery when he was informed by the front office that he was being let go. It was the latest in a series of tin-eared moves by the new Marlins front office led by new team president Derek Jeter and received negative press coverage across the country when it was made public.
