Season Highlights[edit]

The 2026 Miami Marlins were expecting to show improvement after going 79-83 in 2025 with a young team. They started off strong by going 4-1 in March, but the next two months were disappointing as they finished below .500 in both April and May. Things finally started cooking in June, when their record of 20-6 was the best in the majors. That came out of nowhere as they had finished May with five straight losses and fallen to last place in the NL East. That changed completely as the calendar turned, as they won nine of their first ten games in June and by the time the month ended, they were in third place and had shrunken their deficit on the first-place Atlanta Braves from 14 games to 4 1/2. That made them a genuine postseason contender and in fact had the season ended that day, they would have been tied for the final wild card spot.
