Biographical Information[edit]
Rob Marcello pitched in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system in 2013 after being taken in the 17th round of that year's draft. He was 2-0 with a 5.55 ERA in 18 relief appearances for the Williamsport Crosscutters.
Marcello became a pitching coach with the Modesto Nuts in 2019. He was scheduled to coach the Tacoma Rainiers in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19 then did coach for Tacoma in 2021. He was the Director of Pitching for the San Diego Padres from 2022-2024 and pitching coach of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in 2025. In 2026, he was promoted to the parent Miami Marlins as assistant pitching coach. He had grown up as a Marlins fan in Miami, and the team unearthed some pictures of him as part of the "D-Train", the group of young fans who would hold cardboard train pictures and wearing railroad caps in support of pitcher Dontrelle Willis around the time of the Marlins last World Series win in 2003.
