2016 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Managed by Mike Scioscia
On August 15th, the 2016 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim matched a franchise record by losing their 11th straight game. It was the third time they had reached the number, but the first in the long managerial reign of Mike Scioscia, as the last instance had come in 1999. The losing streak was no accidental blip: the Angels were 20 games below .500 at that point and were dead last in the AL West, even though they had entered the season thinking they were contenders for a division title. But apart from the customary excellent season delivered by CF Mike Trout, little had gone right for the Angels all year, with injuries and weak performances being the order of the day.
This was the last season the team used the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" name; the lease agreement on Angel Stadium which mandated the use of the word "Anaheim" in the team name expired at the end of the season, and the clause was not repeated in the subsequent lease agreement, allowing the team to use the simpler "Los Angeles Angels" name starting in 2017.
