Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Wilkin Ramos is the brother of minor league pitcher Darwin Ramos. Wilkin was originally signed by the Oakland Athletics as an international amateur free agent from the Dominican Republic on July 25, 2017.
He pitched only one season in the A's system, in 2018, going 3-03, 3.15 in 14 games for the DSL Athletics. On December 1, 2018, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, apparently for cash considerations, and he pitched for the Bucs from 2019 to 2022, sitting out the 2020 season when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues. He pitched well the final season, going 4-1, 3.88 with 3 saves in 37 games for the Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League, but he also walked 32 batters in 50 innings and gave up a lot of unearned runs. This may explain why he was left unprotected in the 2022 Rule V Draft and was taken by the New York Mets in the minor league portion of that draft.
He had a strong for season in the Mets' organization in 2023, combining to go 5-2, 2.50 with 3 saves in 33 games between the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones and AA Binghamton Rumble Ponies. He still walked a lot of batter, though, with 37 free passes in 57 2/3 innings. In 2024, he made it to AAA with the Syracuse Mets after starting the year in Binghamton. Once again, he had a positive won/loss record, finishing at 6-3 with 11 saves and an ERA of 3.00 in 41 games. But the Mets had a lot of very good pitching prospects knocking at the door, and Wilkin decided to return to the Pirates as a free agent after that season. He pitched very well in AA in 2025, posting an ERA of 1.45 with 7 saves in 35 games for the Altoona Curve, but he was roughed up in 12 games with the AAA Indianapolis Indians, with an ERA of 6.60 in 15 innings.
Wilkin changed organizations again before the 2026 season, signing with the San Francisco Giants. He started the season in AAA with the Sacramento River Cats where he pitched well, going 3-1, 2.00 in his first 17 games. He was called up to San Francisco on June 1st and made his debut that same day, with an appearance in relief of Landen Roupp, who had given up 8 runs to the Milwaukee Brewers in 4 innings of work. He did a bit better, allowing 2 runs in his 2 innings, but the Giants lost the game handily, 16-2.
