- 1915 - Red Sox hurler Babe Ruth helps his cause with three hits, including the first home run of his major league career. Jack Warhop is the victim.
- 1953 - Bobo Holloman wins his first game in the majors by throwing a no-hitter, only the third person to have done so in his first career start. Holloman will only win two more games in his major league career.
- 1982 - Gaylord Perry wins his 300th game. It had been 19 years since Early Wynn had been the last pitcher to do so.
- 1994 - Anthony Young snaps his major league-record 29-game losing streak by beating the Pirates, 10-1.
- 1998 - Rookie Kerry Wood (pictured) fires a one-hitter against the Astros. He strikes out 20, setting a new National League record and tying Roger Clemens' Major League record.
