Ryusei Sato played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.
Sato won three Best Nine awards and a batting title in the North Tohoku Universities Baseball Federation, and he was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 7th round of the 2018 NPB draft; the scout was Hideki Mizusawa. [1] He hit .220/.258/.424 with 2 homers in 2019 while backing up Takeya Nakamura at third base, and he got a vote in the PL Rookie of the Year voting. [2] He was caught speeding in 2020, and he was suspended for a season.
He then hit .167/.167/.167 in 11 games in 2021, and the Fighters traded him with Fumikazu Kimura to the Nippon Ham Fighters for Shota Hiranuma and Katsuhiko Kumon in the middle of that season. He played 40 games with a .219/.284.238 batting line in the rest of the season, and he slumped to .115/.175/.167 in 37 games in 2022. The Fighters then traded him back to the Lions for Haruka Yamada, and he broke out in 2023. Sato played 91 games with a .263/.390/.378 batting line that season, and he crushed 7 homers with a .244/.330/.390 batting line in 2024, winning the starting job at the hot corner. Sato was then traded to the Chunichi Dragons, but he slumped to .197/.280/.242 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Sato hit .224/.313/.330 with 189 hits and 13 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
