Biographical Information[edit]
Perry Minasian was the general manager of the Los Angeles Angels from 2020, when he succeeded Billy Eppler, until June of 2026.
His father, Zack Minasian, was assistant clubhouse manager of the Texas Rangers and Perry served as a team batboy growing up. he played baseball in high school and at the University of Texas at Arlington, but did not turn pro, instead following in his father's footsteps as he became a clubhouse attendant for the Rangers in 1996. In 2003, he became a scout for the team. In 2009, he moved to the Toronto Blue Jays as the director of pro scouting.
In 2017, he was hired by the Atlanta Braves to become assistant general manager under John Coppolella, and when Coppolella was forced to resign and replaced by Alex Anthopoulos, he was promoted to Vice-President of Baseball Operations. The two already knew each other well as they had both come over from the Blue Jays' organization.
He was named GM of the Angels in November of 2020, following Eppler's firing. The Angels had big ambitions at the time, with two superstars on the roster in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, but on-field results were disappointing. That led to the firing of team icon Joe Maddon, as manager during the 2022 season, but his replacement, Phil Nevin, proved to be unable to turn the team's fortunes around. In 2024, Minasian made a surprising move in bringing in Ron Washington, who had had some success as manager of the Rangers when Perry was working there, but who was already well in his 70's. The team suffered through the worst season in franchise history that year, losing 99 games following the departure of Ohtani via free agency and an injury that wrecked Trout's season. Things seemed like they were stabilizing in 2025 when Washington had to step down after 80 games due to a medical condition.
One of the areas in which Minasian has stood out from his peers has been through his approach to the amateur draft. Having identified a lack of quality pitching as a major problem throughout the organization, he addressed this aggressively by using all 20 of his picks in the 2021 amateur draft to select a pitcher. One of these pitchers, Chase Silseth, was the first player from that draft class to reach the majors, and the Angels continued to be very aggressive in promoting their top draft choices in the following years, with SS Zach Neto and 1B Nolan Schanuel both being the first player from their respective draft class to play in the big leagues. In 2025, second-round pick Ryan Johnson was the first player from the 2024 amateur draft to make it to the Show, having skipped the minors entirely, and he was followed only a couple of months later by top pick Christian Moore. This was not just a gimmick, as these young players were key to turning the team's fortunes around.
With the Angels headed for an 11th straight losing season in 2026, Minasian was fired on June 26th. The Angels brought in John Mozeliak as a consultant to the baseball operations department to fill the position in the interim.
His brother Zack Minasian is the General Manager of the San Francisco Giants. Another brother, Calvin, is director of clubhouse and equipment for the Atlanta Braves. A fourth brother, Rudy, stayed out of the family business as he practices law in Chicago, IL. They are of Armenian descent.
