Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Christian Moore was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels with the 8th pick in the 1st round of the 2024 amateur draft, out of the University of Tennessee. He had batted over .300 in all three of his seasons with the Volunteers, including a stellar .375 average in 2024. He was not a just a singled hitter though, as in that same campaign, he had hit 34 homers and driven in 74 runs in 72 games. He had played in the College World Series in both 2023 and 2024, helping to lead Tennessee to the first title in school history the second year. He was already a good hitter in high school, but improved dramatically after starting to wear contact lenses in college.
The Angels had built a reputation in recent years of bringing their top draft choices to the majors quickly, with Nolan Schanuel and Zach Neto being prime examples. Moore followed that pattern as well as his first call-up to the Show came less than a year after he was drafted, on June 12, 2025. He had hit .347 in 25 games for two teams after signing in 2024, and after hitting .234 in 34 games for the AA Rocket City Trash Pandas at the start of 2025, he had been promoted to the AAA Salt Lake Bees on May 20th. Playing mainly second base, he was hitting .350 and slugging .575 after 20 games when he was promoted to the majors. He made his debut on June 13th, starting at second base and batting against the Baltimore Orioles; he went 0 for 3 in a 2-0 loss. He collected his first base hit on June 16th, a triple off Clarke Schmidt of the New York Yankees at New Yankee Stadium. Later in that game, he scored the winning run in a 1-0 win as the designated runner in the 11th inning. He had another signature moment on June 24th, when he had his first two-homer game, the first tying the game in the 8th and the second being a walk-off shot in the 10th inning off Justin Wilson that gave the Angels a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. This was both his first multi-homer game (his first career long ball had come on June 20th), and his first walk-off homer. Only three weeks into his career, however, on July 2nd, he suffered a sprained left thumb in attempting a diving catch in a game against the Atlanta Braves and had to be placed on the injured list. Chad Stevens was called up to take his place. He was hitting .189 after 18 games, with 3 homers and 8 RBIs.
