Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Chad Stevens was drafted twice, the first time in the 40th round of the 2017 amateur draft, by the San Diego Padres coming out of high school, and the second in the 11th round of the 2021 amateur draft, by the Houston Astros out of the University of Portland. He hit .333 with 8 homers and 29 RBIs in 49 games in his final season of college ball.
He played in the Astros' system until 2024, playing one full season in High A in 2022 and one in AA in 2023, after playing in Low A in 2021. He hit .248 with 12 homers and 60 RBIs in 85 games for the Asheville Tourists in 2022, and .220/.333/.397 in 122 games for the Corpus Christi Hooks the next year. However, he started 2024 in a slump, hitting just .153 in 24 games for the Hooks and was released by the Astros on May 7th. The Los Angeles Angels signed him as a free agent a couple of weeks later, and he ended appearing at four different levels in their system over the remainder of the season, including 4 games in the Arizona Complex League. He hit well over .300 in both Class A and AA and finished the year playing in AAA for the Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League. In 112 games spread out over five teams that year, his slash line was .271/.330/.436 as it appears Houston may have been a bit premature in giving up on him.
He started 2025 with Salt Lake and continued to hit well. He was at .307 after 72 games, with14 homers and 43 RBIs, when he was called up to L.A., to take the place of top prospect Christian Moore, who had made his own debut only three weeks earlier but had to go on the injured list with a sprained left thumb. He was immediately taken out of a game he was playing with the Bees on July 2nd and told to head to Anaheim as quickly as possible. He made his debut the next day, starting at second base and batting 9th for the Angels. He went 0 for 4 in a 5-1 win over the Atlanta Braves.
