Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Denevi played for the USA national baseball team and in the minor leagues.
Denevi was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 22nd round of the 1971 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign and went to college. He represented the USA when they won the 1974 Amateur World Series. [1] The Milwaukee Brewers then picked him twice in the 6th round of the 1974 Amateur Draft and the 2nd round of the 1975 January Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign either time. Denevi was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the first round of the 1975 Amateur Draft, and he hit .285/.379/.351 in 47 games for the GCL Royals in his first season. He was 5th in the Gulf Coast League in average, between Ronald Pettinger and Dave Rivera, and tied Clint Hurdle for 7th in OBP. He was named the GCL All-Star second baseman. [2] He recorded a .228/.283/.287 batting line in 100 games for the Omaha Royals in 1976, and he was 4-for-34 with the AAA Jacksonville Suns. Denevi hit .232/.323/.276 for the Suns in 1977, his 37 errors tying Alan Trammell for the most by a Southern League shortstop. [3] He slumped to .167/.244/.217 in 43 games in Omaha in 1978 and his professional career ended.
