Catcher Lou Kahn played in the minor leagues from 1936 to 1953 (possibly the last two as a player/coach). He reached the International League in 1944-1946, the Pacific Coast League in 1948, and was back in the IL in 1952-1953.
Kahn was a St. Louis Cardinals coach in 1955. That year, he had started the season as a coach for the Rochester Red Wings under Harry Walker and succeeded him as manager when Walker was named manager of the Cardinals. When Harry's brother Dixie Walker was appointed to lead the Red Wings, Kahn was brought up to the major league club as a coach. He had been a player in the minor leagues before that.
Kahn also spent a few years managing in the minors mainly for the Philadelphia Phillies. He managed the 1950 Gainesville G-Men for part of the season. Kahn was a coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1959 and managed the team for the final week of the season when manager Dixie Walker quit on August 30. In 1960 and 1961 he went 74-66 and 82-58 respectively with the Bakersfield Bears. In 1963, his Spartanburg Phillies were 66-58, after which he retired from baseball for two years to manage a Funsten Nut Company plant. He returned in 1966 as a scout and guided the 1966 Portsmouth Tides and the Phillies entry in the 1969 Florida Instructional League. In 1970, he took over the Eugene Emeralds in mid-season, during which he came into conflict with Hank McGraw, Tug McGraw's brother, over his choice of hairstyle.
Kahn was a scout for the Phillies from 1966 to 1982.
