Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher/first baseman Jason Hagerty played in the San Diego Padres system from 2009 to 2016. Though he spent parts or all of three seasons at Triple-A, he never ascended to the majors.
He was taken by the Padres in the 5th round of the 2009 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Ashur Tolliver and future All-Star Brandon Belt, and was signed by scout Rob Sidwell. After a down initial campaign, he batted .302/.423/.494 with 14 home runs, 74 RBI and 35 doubles in 122 games for the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2010. Going into 2011, he was ranked the #10 prospect in the Padres chain by Baseball America, between Drew Cumberland and Jedd Gyorko. He hit 31 doubles between two clubs that year, earning a spot in the Arizona Fall League. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2013, hitting .160/.323/.160 in 12 games for the Tucson Padres.
On August 4, 2015, while with the El Paso Chihuahuas, he hit a line drive that struck Reno Aces pitcher Evan Marshall in the head, giving the hurler a fractured skull and cerebral hemhorrage.
Overall, Hagerty batted .268/.368/.429 with 58 home runs and 295 RBI in 596 games. At Triple-A, he batted .266/.358/.415 with 8 homers and 42 RBI in 109 games. He was a Midwest League Post-Season All-Star and a Topps Class A All-Star in 2010. In 2010 and 2011, he was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star.
He later served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri (2020-2023) and Indiana State University (2024-).
