Giaconino Lasaracina has played in Serie A1 and for the Italian national team.
He made his Serie A1 debut in 2022; the teenager hit .406/.470/.574 with 30 RBI in 27 games as a utility player for Settimo. The youngster was 6th in the league in average (between Ricardo Paolini and Danny Andres) and 7th in slugging (between Dariel Rodriguez and Gabriele Angioi). [1] In 2023, he batted .338/.417/.556 and had a save and a 4.76 ERA. Playing primarily third base, he tied for 5th in the loop in doubles (13) and trailed only Kasey Caras in triples (7 to 5). [2] During 2024, he produced at a .387/.472/.613 clip with 24 runs in 30 games. He was 6th in average (between Rodriguez and Yordany Scull), 7th in slugging, 10th in OBP and tied for 7th in doubles (12). He was used more at catcher now, though still seeing some action at the hot corner. [3]
Lasaracina was a RF/C for Italy in the 2025 U23 European Championship, hitting .250/.368/.375. [4] He was with Colecchio that summer, batting .333/.396/.644 with 27 RBI in 23 contests. He was 8th in slugging, between former AAA player Brandon McIlwain and former AA player Manuel Geraldo. [5] He then made Italy's senior national team for the 2025 European Championship. Starting at DH and hitting 5th in the opener against Switzerland, he hit a grand slam in the 1st to chase Andrea Girasole then added a two-run single off Yannick Brot later in a 13-run frame. In the second, he tagged Brot for a two-run dinger. He followed with a 3-hit game against Lithuania. He homered off Greece's Yanni Orfanidis and Dean Christidis. After going a combined 0-for-7 with a walk versus France and Germany, he had 3 hits (including a bomb off Filip Kollmann) in the semifinal win over the Czech national team. In the title game with the Netherlands, he took former major leaguer Shairon Martis yard, one of his two hits in a 6-5 loss. He finished the tourney at .481/.516/1.185 with 9 runs, 6 homers and 15 RBI in the 7 games. He was among the leaders in average (9th), slugging (2nd, .123 behind Graeham Luttor), OPS (2nd, 250 behind Luttor), runs (tied Renzo Martini for 2nd, one behind Elias Kreska), hits (13, tied Martin Červenka for 2nd, one behind Julian Sanders), RBI (2nd, one behind Červenka) and homers (1st, two ahead of Červenka). [6] It marked the highest home run total in a European Championship since Ademar Rifaela had clubbed 6 in 2019. The former major leaguer position players in the event (Jonathan Schoop, MVP Didi Gregorius, Joey Terdoslavich, Luis Guillorme and Eric Sogard) combined for half as many dingers.
