Biographical Information

Renzo Martini has played in the Dominican Republic, USA, Venezuela and Italy. He has been on the Italian national team.

Signed originally by the New York Yankees, he hit .261/.355/.422 with 34 RBI in 46 games for the 2011 DSL Yankees 2. He batted .290/.379/.493 for the '12 DSL Yankees 1 with 22 doubles and 49 RBI in 60 contests. He was third in the Dominican Summer League in two-baggers (after Shamil Ubiera and Ismael Aguero) and third in RBI (behind Gabriel Guerrero and José Cardona). He split 2013 between the GCL Yankees 1 and GCL Yankees 2, with a composite line of .267/.332/.387, splitting time between first and third base.

Martini slumped to .199/.270/.331 for the 2014 Staten Island Yankees. He turned 13 double plays, leading third basemen in the New York-Penn League. He bounced between three Yankees farm teams in 2015, primarily with the GCL Yankees 2 though. He was at .286/.391/.470 for that team. He tied for 7th in the Gulf Coast League in runs (32), led in doubles (17, two ahead of Luis Arráez and Cornelius Randolph), tied Gerrion Grim for 7th in home runs (5), was second in RBI (34) and was 3rd with 31 walks (behind Nick Plummer and Randolph).

Out of the Yankees chain, he played two games for the 2017-2018 Cardenales de Lara in Venezuela but did not bat. He came to Italy in 2019 and hit .423/.500/.763 with 19 RBI and 7 homers in 22 games for the Rangers Redipuglia. He won the 2019 Serie A1 batting title (.043 ahead of #2 Sebastiano Poma), led in slugging (.100 ahead of Poma), led in OBP (.007 ahead of MLB vet Alex Romero), tied for 4th in hits (33), tied for 5th in doubles (7), led in home runs (one ahead of Federico Celli and Leo Rodríguez) and tied Federico Giordani and Poma for the most total bases (61).

His whereabouts in 2020 are unclear. Moving to Fortitudo Bologna the next summer, he was 5 for 14 with a homer, 5 runs, two walks and 3 RBI in the 2021 European Champions Cup. He went deep off the Rouen Huskies' Quentin Moulin. He hit .396/.496/.582 with 35 runs and 33 RBI in 24 games in the 2021 Serie A1 and was at .389/.421/.444 in the 2021 Italian Series, but they fell to ASD San Marino. Suiting up for Italy in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week, he hit .235/.300/.235. In the 2022 Serie A1, he produced at a .403/.493/.548 clip with 29 runs and 29 RBI in 39 games.

The Venezuelan native switched to Grosseto in 2023, where he hit .390/.432/.574 his first year, with 17 doubles, 39 runs and 37 RBI in 34 games. He made leaderboards in average (9th, between Nathanael Batista and Jordano Collado), runs (8th, between Eugene Helder and Brian Severino), hits (55, tied Federico Celli and Rushenten Tomsjansen for 5th), RBI (tied Batista for 4th) and doubles (tied Danny Andres for the lead). The next summer, the veteran was back at it at .344/.402/.452, not making any leaderboards this time.

During 2025, Martini posted a .324/.385/.477 line with 19 runs in 28 games. He tied Gedionne Marlin for 7th with 36 hits. He then made Italy's team for the 2025 European Championship. Starting at cleanup and first base in their opener, he had a single off Andrea Girasole of Switzerland his first time up, driving in Gabriele Angioi with Italy's first run of the tourney; he scored 3 times that day. He reached all fives times against France and had four hits and six runs produced in their semifinal win over Czechia. In the title game against the Netherlands, he was 0-for-5. He still batted .480/.552/.640 with 9 runs and 5 RBI in 7 games, handling 31 chances error-free between first and third. He was 10th in average and OBP, tied Giaconino Lasaracina for second in runs (one behind Elias Kreska) and tied Alberto Mineo and Chase Engelhard for 4th in hits (12). With his dominant semifinal contest, he helped Italy get its best finish since 2019.
