Biographical Information[edit]

Dave Patterson, who was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the January 1976 amateur draft, came to the majors for one year in 1979. He was busy, with 36 appearances and a 4-1 record.

The 1978 Texas League boasted many guys who had fine careers as MLB closers: Lee Smith, Jeff Reardon, Dave Righetti and Mark Clear. Ron Davis, Greg A. Harris, Neil Allen, Gary Lucas, Ted Power and Rod Scurry also became fine relievers in the majors as well. So who led the league in saves? Mr. Dave Patterson, who posted a 2.15 ERA and K'd 52 while walking 11 in 46 innings.

In 1980 he played with the Albuquerque Dukes, going 5-3. One teammate of the same age was Dave Stewart.

In 1981 he was with Albuquerque again, going 7-1 in 38 appearances on a team that went 94-38. Teammates included Ted Power, Rudy Law, Candy Maldonado, and Mike Marshall.
