Biographical Information

Daniel Vellojin has played as high as AA and has been on the Colombian national team.

He was signed by Cincinnati Reds scout Jose Valdelamar in January 2018. He hit .198/.338/.305 for the 2018 DSL Reds and threw out 33.3% of those who tried to steal. Returning to the team in 2019, he improved to .314/.444/.451 and 41% CS. He was 7th in the Dominican Summer League in OBP, between Raymond Mora and Robert Gonzalez. He was named the league's All-Star backstop. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Back in action in 2021, he produced at a .247/.401/.403 clip with 72 walks in 88 games for the Daytona Tortugas, gunning down 43%. He was third in Low-A Southeast in walks (behind PK Morris and Aaron Sabato) and led Reds farmhands, 14 ahead of runner-up Jacob Hurtubise. In 2022, he played for Daytona (.129/.280/.177 in 20 G), the Dayton Dragons (.271/.393/.514 in 22 G) and Chattanooga Lookouts (.191/.309/.362 in 29 G), homering 10 times in 226 AB while making it to AA at age 22. That winter, he produced at a .292/.430/.597 rate with 12 homers, 39 runs and 35 walks in 42 games for the Vaqueros de Monteria. He led the Colombian League in homers by four and was 6th in RBI (33, between Derwin Pomare and Meibrys Viloria), tied Gustavo Campero for 3rd in runs, 2nd in walks (four shy of Viloria) and in the top-five in OPS. Following that performance, he was 5 for 3 with two walks and two runs for the Vaqueros in the 2023 Caribbean Series.

Spending all of 2023 with the Lookouts, he slumped to .198/.312/.308 after entering the season as the Reds' #28 prospect (per MLB.com). He hit only .170/.293/.242 for the '24 lookouts then was at .232/.346/.348 for the 2024-2025 Vaqueros. A free agent, he signed with the Tampa Bay Rays for 2025 but eked out a .193/.304/.311 line for the Bowling Green Hot Rods. He then represented Colombia in the 2025 Bolivarian Games, alternating between catcher and first base. His first time up, against Peru's Renzo Meloni, he hit into a force to score Tito Polo with the team's first run of the Games. His first hit was off Jorge Sivirichi, driving in Dayan Frias. In extra innings in the Gold Medal Game, he scored the tying run against Peru on a Sivirichi wild pitch as Colombia staved off an upset to take the Gold. He hit .250/.375/.250 with 4 walks, 2 runs and 7 RBI in his 6 games, handling 51 chances error-free and throwing out 2 of 3 who tried to steal. He tied Polo and Stephan Vidal for second in RBI (2 behind Shendrion Martinus), tied for 10th in walks, led in putouts (49, 13 ahead of #2 Guillermo Quintana), led in fielding (Quintana was also at 1.000, in 13 fewer chances) and was third in runners thrown out.
