Biographical Information[edit]

Guillermo Quintana has played in the minors and for the Colombian national team.

He was signed by Kansas City Royals scouts Rafael Miranda and Orlando Estevez in July 2017. [1] He split 2018 between the DSL Royals 1 and DSL Royals 2, hitting a combined .276/.350/.287 while alternating between 1B and C. He split 2019 between the same two teams, batting .284/.393/.405 with 17 doubles in 60 games. He was 6th in the Dominican Summer League in doubles. The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, he came stateside and hit .298/.454/.452 for the ACL Royals Blue, being named team Player of the Year. [2] That winter, he posted a .309/.353/.372 line for the Gigantes de Barranquilla. He hit .240/.331/.348 for the 2022 Columbia Fireflies, stealing 19 bases in 24 tries and drawing 57 walks. He led Carolina League first basemen in putouts (805), errors (14) and double plays (80). [3] With the Toros de Sincelejo in 2022-2023, he was at .272/.349/.402.

Let go by the Royals, he signed with the independent Cleburne Railroaders and returned to catching. He produced at a .277/.368/.449 clip that summer. In the winter, he hit .226/.275/.262 for the Tigres de Cartagena. In 2024, he batted .239/.310/.299 for the Gary SouthShore RailCats. In the 2024 U-23 Baseball World Cup, batting .250/.360/.350 for Colombia and handling 48 chances error-free while gunning down 4 of 6 who tried to steal. He threw out the most runners, one more than Giovanny Rivero, who allowed 11 more swipes. [4]

With the Caimanes de Barranquilla in 2024-2025, he slashed .292/.435/.479 with 24 walks in 34 games. He tied for third in the Colombian League in walks. He did not play in the US that summer. He was with Colombia when they won Gold in the 2025 Bolivarian Games, hitting .263/.333/.263 with 4 runs in 6 games, handling 38 chances without an error and allowing one steal in one try. He was 2nd with 36 putouts, trailing only teammate Daniel Velojin. [5]
