Biographical Information[edit]

Carl Lebhar played for the French national team and in Division Elite. It would seem plausible that he was related to teammate André Lebhar.

Carl was on the first French team in a Baseball World Cup. In their 1994 Baseball World Cup debut, he pinch-hit for Anthony Meurant and struck out against Cuban great Orlando Hernández, El Duque. He was 1-for-17 for the Cup, his hit coming off Colombia's Roque Román. Splitting second base with Lahcène Benhamida, he handled 9 chances error-free. [1] He hit .381/.586/.429 with 9 runs in 7 games in the 1995 European Championship, fielding .931. He was third in fielding at 3B, behind Evgeny Puchkov and Bostjan Jan. [2]

Lebhar was the starting shortstop when France won Bronze in the 1999 European Championship, their first medal in a European Championship. He hit .176/.363/.176 in the round-robin with 5 runs, 4 RBI, 5 steals in 5 tries and fielding .952 in 5 games. He was second in fielding at SS, .012 behind Jendrick Speer, and tied Alexander Nizov for the steal lead. In the Bronze Medal Game, he drove in 3 to help beat Russia. [3] He batted .286/.385/.429 with 8 RBI in 5 games in the 2001 European Championship, fielding .917. He led France in RBI; going into the title game, he was tied for 5th in the event in RBI with David Sheldon, Jiri Visek, Percy Isenia and Javier Zabalza. [4]

Domestic stats are unavailable online prior to 1998 (as of 9/3/2025). He played for the Paris Université Club from 1998-2004, when his career ended; in that time, he produced at a .393/.499/.544 clip with 191 runs, 54 doubles, 153 RBI and 75 steals in 149 games, drawing 128 walks. He was 2-2 with a 8.77 ERA and fielded .932. [5]
